Memory

2021

For this project I was asked to spend a few hours with a friend(s) or relative(s), go for a walk, play a game, visit a store, museum, outdoor park, gallery…it was totally up to me. I had to take photographs during my time with them using multiple camera angles, varied perspective, composition and different typed of light. I had the option to take images with them in the frame or to take images fo the surrounding space or both. After spending time with my person I had to interview them and record their version of what just happened. I had to ask for specific details and their emotional response. Then I had to write a summary of what they just told me. This project required me to upload one image that I think best captures my memory of the time that I spent with my person. I had to write about how my memory of the time was either different or the same as the person I interviewed. I was asked the question why do I think my image captures my memory of this time?

On Sunday, my boyfriend and I were trying to decided on what to do for the day. We were planning on going out but instead we got caught up in watching WandaVision and we ended up watching the whole first season that day. So I ended up interviewing him about our day spent watching tv.

I asked him to recall how he felt about us being couch potatoes all day while watching WandaVision. He said that he found it to be really relaxing. He recalled how we only planned on watching one episode because then we were going to go out but then he said that it was so good we decided to watch another episode and then another and another. "I was super interested in what was going to happen after the first episode because the first episode was confusing but interesting. We started to try and predict what as going to happen next." He said that he didn't mind being a couch potato with me. I then asked him how he felt about the last episode of the show. His response was "It was satisfying to see the show's conclusion, I liked the ending."

I think that this best captures the moment because it was an unplanned event. We wanted to go out and do something since I was away at my house in New Jersey for most of the weekend. We started the day off with some lunch and wanted to watch something on the tv. We came across WandaVision and given that so many people have been talking about it and saying it was good we decided to see what it was all about. I would say that our memory of that day was similar. Once we started we couldn't stop, both of us were glued to the tv and the next thing we knew it was 8 o'clock and we still needed to have dinner. We didn't even move off of the couch to turn the lights on once the sun went down. My roommate has this mirror that awkwardly sits in the living room because he hasn't brought it in his room yet (it’s been there for three months). So the whole time we were watching tv the mirror was facing us, I decide to leave the mirror in the image because it was able to capture us together on the couch. Even though we ended up spending the whole day inside it was nice to just sit there and relax. We didn't even realize that we had left our phones in my room all day. Which again shows just how invested we were in this show, not having our phones by us allowed us to be fully invested in the show and fully invested in each other's company.
