Truth or Lies
2021
This project was expanding on photography as evidence and manipulation. I had to create four images that had a similar look and feel. Two of my images had to be truths and the other two had to be lies. My job was to convince the viewers that the lie images were truth.
“Many people assume that the manipulation of photographs and their content began with the invention of the digital camera and the software that followed. This couldn't be further from the truth. Photographs have always walked the line between truth and lies, fact and fiction and the manipulation of photographic images began almost immediately as the medium was invented.”
This series of black and white photos are a documentation of my struggle with my mental health. Image one is my boyfriend and I looking through his bedroom window. Image two is an unmade bed. While image three is different positions on the bed. Image four is me sleeping in the bed with a blanket wrapped around me. All of images have the bed in it because some days it is hard to get up and on the days that I do simple tasks like making the bed are ignored. Through the manipulation of photographic images, two images are a lie.
